Here's What You Get

Are you having a tough time choosing just ONE excursion? If so, look no further than Samana by Bus.

The tour is, arguably, 3 excursions in ONE:

  • Safari Truck
  • Hiking/Horseback Riding
  • Catamaran with Island time

Oh, and we throw in a secluded mountain waterfall to boot!

Sound impossible to do it all in one day? It's not, so keep reading and let us explain...

Samana is a peninsula in the Northeast Region of the Dominican Republic, boasting a mix of virgin beaches and lush mountain forests. An hour-long bus ride that winds between the oriental mountain range and the Samana Bay takes us from Punta Cana to the sleepy fishing village of Miches. From here we board our catamaran and cross the Bay to the Samana Peninsula.

  • Safari Truck: From the Samana docks, you board our Open-Air Safari Truck and we wind our way into Samana's lush, mountainous countryside before arriving at the entrance to one of the Dominican Republic's most sought-after waterfalls...
  • Hiking or Horseback Riding: If you're ready for a nice stroll in the tropics lace up the hiking boots for a 30 minute trek into the forest. Or, you can choose to saddle-up for a 30-minute horseback ride. Both trails follow the Limon River before it crashes down over a mountain ridge. Truly a sight to see, the Limon Waterfall is nestled in the depths of Samana's humid forests, featuring a cascade that free falls 170 feet into a green lagoon below.

On how many occasions will you wade in natural mountain waters in the middle of the Caribbean? Take your time.

To the Truck once again, we make our way to the country ranch for an authentic Dominican lunch of fish, chicken, rice, beans, salad, fresh fruit and dessert in an amazing, rustic Caribbean setting. Believe us, this is better than your hotel's "Dominican Menu".

On to the catamaran to Cayo Levantado...

  • Catamaran: Our dual-haul, spacious catamaran will now take you to the renowned Cayo Levantado. Literally meaning 'raised cay' in English, this tiny atoll is encircled by powdery sands, lapping turquoise waters and mountains to the North and South. Enjoy your time on this lazy island and don't forget to try the area's famous Pina Colada with rum, ice and juice right in the hollow Pineapple. How do you drink your Pina Colada? In a cup?

"It was a great tour Nathan was so informational… the staff was nice and left you to Rome in some areas. I just wish they did smaller if the tour were 6-8 ppl you would have more time enjoying the waterfall/ beach and less time picking up ppl. Also the time at the waterfall felt a bit rushed I wish we had about 1-2 hours at the waterfall to swim in it and just enjoy the nature and the beauty! I know most people go there for pictures but I went to enjoy the land so they need to keep that in mind too"

"One of the best excursions we've been on! So much fun and all the staff were incredible. We loved it so much that we talked a random couple we met in our hotel to book it the next day. Will definitely do it again."

Good to know

How do you get to Samana from Punta Cana?

If you're just visiting Samana for the day from Punta Cana, a day excursion is by far the quickest way. Driving to Samana on your own would require you to drive completely around Los Haitises National Park, an approximately 4 hour drive each way. On a day tour, the arrival time is half, about 2 hours. This is because the trip is a combination of bus and boat that takes you directly across the Samana Bay to Samana.

Is horseback riding to Salto Limon mandatory?

No, horseback riding is not mandatory. You can choose to walk instead of horseback. The walk is about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) each way on a flat, sometimes muddy trail.

Are pregnant women allowed to participate?

No, pregnant women cannot participate in the Samana excursion. This is mainly due to the boat ride across Samana Bay.

Can you swim at Cayo Levantado?

Of course you can swim at Cayo Levantado! We encourage it! Enjoy this beautiful tropical setting as much as you can.

How much time do you spend at Cayo Levantado?

The stop at Cayo Levantado is approximately 2 hours.
